“All that we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.” I love this quote by J.R.R. Tolkien! It simplifies life by reminding us all we really have is time. It reminds us of how many choices we really do have even though sometimes we may not feel like we do or we convince ourselves otherwise.
Take some time to reflect upon the results you have in your life. Are you truly happy? I know sometimes I have caught myself going through the motions of life by carrying out routines and habits I have created. As I continue to journey through this transitional phase in my life, I have realized I am not the only one searching for a different path. I would like to share some of the stepping stones which have provided support for me as I continue to build a new foundation and explore different directions.
There are 3 books I highly recommend if you want to create some changes in your life. They are The Passion Test, The Success Principles, and Rich Dad Poor Dad. The Passion Test, by Janet Bray Attwood & Chris Attwood, will help you identify your true passions so you can live a happier, more fulfilling life. The test is simple, and as Janet and Chris explain, there are no wrong answers and no studying is required. There several other activities which will also support you in defining and achieving your dreams in addition to the personal examples provided. Janet’s astounding story is woven throughout Part One. Part Two contains more inspirational stories from the likes of Debbie Ford, Stephen M.R. Covey, Jay Abraham, and Marci Shimoff.
The Success Principles, by Jack Canfield, is another amazing book with a similar purpose of helping you discover your passions and how to build a career based on doing what you love. There are numerous activities and exercises designed to reveal insight into how you can live your ultimate life. I highly respect and admire Jack. He is a truly passionate and inspirational role model.
Another man for whom I have a tremendous amount of respect is Robert Kiyosaki. His financial intelligence is off the charts, and I love his writing style too. The first book I read by Robert was Rich Dad Poor Dad. He explains the differences between being an employee versus being a business owner and/or investor and the advantages of owning and investing versus just working for money.
I never realized how much financial education is lacking in our society, including our schools, until I began reading Robert’s books. It is no wonder our economy has become such a disaster. Reading Robert’s books has greatly influenced my vision for having my money work for me instead of spending my entire life working for money. I am now learning how to gain financial independence by acquiring assets, reducing my taxes, and creating a positive cashflow instead of spending all of my money on liabilities.
As you go forth, remember life is a journey to be enjoyed rather than a destination. Your time here is limited, and the amount you have remaining is unknown. Invest your time wisely by pursuing your passions to live a truly fulfilling life. This lifetime is your opportunity to fulfill your purpose. I f you don’t yet know what your purpose is, The Passion Test and The Success Principles are superb resources to guide you in discovering your dreams.
