A Poetic Life

Friday, June 12th, 2009 No Comments »

When I was 32, I wrote a poem summarizing the highlights and lowlights from my year.  Life inspired me to come alive because it had been an especially emotional year.  I dealt with death, falling in love, and having my heart shattered.

On the up side I met April, a new lifelong friend, and my idol, Tori Amos.  I saw Tori in San Fran, LA, and San Diego.  Sarah McLachlan, Fiona Apple, and Alanis Morissette all played shows that year too.  I went to Brazil with my friend Adriana and spent a month traveling around Europe by myself.

At the end 0f my 33rd year in 2006, I wrote another end of the year poem and decided I would continue this tradition throughout my life.  At the end of 2007, I began summarizing my 34th year, but soon became distracted.  I finally got back to writing the poem about 2007 in July of 2008.  Then it was abandoned for almost another year until I sat down yesterday and finished revising and typing it.

What finally spurred me to action was that my Writers Mastermind group met last night, and I didn’t want to show up at the meeting without having made some sort of progress to share on at least one of my writing projects.  It was great to make a year’s worth of progress in a single day, and now I am only one year behind instead of two.  :-)
